A speed pedelec is a bike that can reach speeds of up to 45km/h. The bicycle must therefore be fitted with a licence plate and you must have a valid permanent driving licence. A type B (car) or type AM (moped) driving licence is sufficient. It is also compulsory to wear a helmet and abide by the traffic rules that apply to performance bikes.
If the pedal assistance is maintained even at speeds above 25 km/hour, no special insurance is required. The family civil liability insurance is sufficient.
If the speed pedelec can move forward autonomously without pedal assistance, a BA insurance for mopeds is required (for example, the Ellio speed bikes). We will take out this insurance for you.
Please note! The ordering process for a performance bike will take a little longer than usual. Once the performance bike has been delivered to the bicycle shop, the dealer will receive a certificate of conformity and a registration form. These forms are then sent to the insurer and then onto the DIV (Vehicle Registration Department). DIV in turn will issue the licence plate. Unfortunately, this process takes several weeks. After delivery of the bicycle, you then have to take into account an administrative handling period of a few weeks.
