A complete guide to the Cyclis Bike Lease maintenance budget
13/08/2025
It’s inevitable: every bike will eventually need maintenance or repair. And before you even realise it, you could be faced with a €100 bill. Fortunately, anyone leasing a bike can opt for a tailored maintenance budget. This budget can be used to service or repair your bike, or to purchase accessories from your local bike dealer. In this article, we explain everything you need to know about the maintenance budget offered by Cyclis Bike Lease.
The maintenance budget offers tax benefits
You probably already knew that bike leasing offers tax benefits. But did you know that having your bike serviced and repaired is also tax-efficient thanks to the maintenance budget from Cyclis Bike Lease?
The maintenance budget you choose is included in the monthly leasing cost. This means you pay for it out of your gross salary. If you paid for your maintenance directly at your bike shop, you wouldn’t get any tax benefits and you’d be paying directly out of your net salary. That’s why we say, “Better to have a budget that’s too high than too low!”. If you face unexpected expenses for your bike and have to pay them all at once, it will be a hefty sum.
Do you want to avoid ending up with a maintenance budget balance after three years of leasing? That’s understandable, but don’t panic: at the end of your leasing period, you can use this remaining maintenance budget at your local bike dealer to have your bike serviced or to buy accessories. This budget will remain valid for one year after the end of your leasing contract.
How much should you budget for maintenance?
It’s up to you to decide how much you want to spend. The maintenance budget can range from €50 to €1,200, and can be increased in increments of €50.
Your local bike dealer is best placed to advise you on the right budget, depending on the type of bike and how often you plan to use it. Don’t hesitate to ask them for advice if needed!
Let’s take an example to illustrate this:
You lease a bike worth €3,000 and choose a maintenance budget of €450. Let’s say you have your bike serviced once a year at a cost of €100. In the meantime, you get a flat tyre and need to have it replaced for €50. In total, you will have spent €350 on annual maintenance and the tyre replacement. With the rest of your budget, you can then buy a helmet, or an accessory of your choice, worth €100.
Please note!
- You will no longer be able to increase your budget once your lease agreement has commenced.
- The maximum budget cannot exceed one-third of your bike’s list price.
How does the maintenance budget work?
You can easily manage your budget via My.Cyclis. You’ll have access at any time of day to see everything you’ve already ordered and how much of your maintenance budget remains.
Does your bike need repair or maintenance? Or do you need new accessories? If so, visit your bike shop and show them your remaining maintenance budget on your smartphone. They can also track your budget directly via our platform for bike shops. You therefore do not need to pay directly in-store. The bike dealer invoices us for the amount, which we then deduct from your maintenance budget. If your budget is insufficient, you will need to pay the remaining amount directly in-store.
