How do I lock my bike correctly?
To be covered against theft, it is important to lock your bike correctly. What exactly you need to do depends on where you leave your bike.
- Outdoors or in a publicly accessible place
Secure the bike by the frame to a fixed attachment point.
A fixed attachment point is a sturdy and immovable element made of brick, stone, metal or wood, securely anchored to a solid wall or the ground (e.g. a bike rack securely anchored to the ground). The bike must not be able to be detached from it, even by lifting it. - In a closed private space
Is the bike kept in a closed private space that is accessible only to you and your family members, such as your home, private garage, basement, storage room or garden shed? In that case, you do not need to secure the bike to a fixed attachment point. - In private communal areas
Is the bike kept in a private communal area, such as a shared garage or bike storage room in an apartment building? In that case, the bike must be locked, but does not need to be secured to a fixed attachment point.
