DAF Trucks N.V. offers a bike leasing service
via Cyclis Bike Lease

27/03/2026
DAF Trucks N.V. is fully committed to sustainable mobility. Thanks to the launch of the bike leasing plan via Cyclis Bike Lease, thousands of employees now have the opportunity to commute to work in a smoother, healthier and more sustainable way. Find out how a well-thought-out approach, smart communication and strong collaboration have enabled the bike leasing plan to get off to an excellent start, and how DAF is thereby setting an example within the Brainport region.
Interlocutor: Jeroen Henkelman, HR-specialist at DAF Trucks N.V.
Interviewer: Niels Dhaeze, Cyclis Bike Lease
Can you describe DAF in a few words?
Jeroen:
DAF is a global truck manufacturer with production facilities in Eindhoven, Westerlo, the UK and Brazil. Our trucks are on the road all over the world, from South America and Oceania to Africa and Asia. We are part of PACCAR, our US-based parent company. Our two American sister brands, Peterbilt and Kenworth, operate mainly in North America.
What were the reasons for choosing Cyclis as a bike leasing partner?
Jeroen:
Cyclis was already active in our site in Westerlo. At first, we had invited three Nederland bike leasing companies to take part in the tender. On the advice of our colleagues in Westerlo, we eventually added Cyclis to the list.
During the tender process, two service providers were quickly eliminated, leaving two candidates in the running, including Cyclis. Among the key questions for us were: ‘Is Cyclis big enough for the Dutch market?’ and ‘Are there enough bicycle shops in the Eindhoven area?’
What made the difference;
- Cyclis Bike Lease is flexible and responsive, and plays an active role in the decision-making process at every level.
- The experience at DAF Westerlo has been positive.
What led you to implement a sustainable mobility plan and a bike leasing service?
Jeroen:
As part of the ‘Sustainable Employability’ programme, we are committed to improving our employees’ health and well-being. On site, the famous DAF red bikes have for years enabled employees to travel between buildings. We offer a bike purchase plan, so bike leasing is the logical next step.
We are also investing in infrastructure: new bike parking facilities with capacity for 400 to 500 bikes are currently under construction, equipped with charging points for e-bikes and repair kits. Information on this is also widely communicated via the intranet, the DAF app and targeted communications.
How did your collaboration with Cyclis get off to a start?
Jeroen:
- We announced the leasing projet on the 1st September during our major team meeting.
- An internal launch followed on the 21st October.
- On 22nd October, the communication went live across all internal channels.
- In the weeks that followed, we organised two demonstration days at the DAF site, in collaboration with Cyclis and a local bike dealer. These events attracted nearly 300 staff members.
In addition, a comprehensive FAQ and user guide are available on the intranet, in both Dutch and English.
What results have you seen so far?
Jeroen:
Although we launched in the winter, the initial figures are strong:
- ± 350 accounts created
- ± 700 simulations
- ± 150 quotes
- Almost 40 orders in the first week
The range consists mainly of e-bikes, supplemented by a few gravel bikes and mountain bikes.
We have deliberately capped the lease amount at €7,500, including accessories. This protects employees from excessive monthly costs.
What is expected for the next months?
Jeroen:
From February onwards, as soon as the cycling season begins, we expect a sharp rise in the number of orders. By then, we plan to organise more demonstration days.
We’re already hearing a lot of positive feedback internally.
Would you recommend bike leasing to other companies?
Jeroen:
For sure. Bike leasing makes high-quality bikes accessible without requiring a significant investment from the employee. My advice to organisations:
- Involve all internal stakeholders at an early stage, from payroll to privacy, IT, finance and tax.
- Reach out to the tax authorities ahead of time, if a special arrangement is in place.
- Choose a partner who takes care of everything and is flexible. At DAF, this was a key selection criterion.
With the right preparation, bike leasing offers many benefits, both for employees and for the organisation.
In conclusion
“The initial feedback has been positive, and several employees who were part of the project group have already ordered a lease bike themselves. Satisfaction with the service, maintenance and roadside assistance will ultimately determine how much the scheme will grow. We are certainly looking forward to the future with optimism.”
