How did Imelda tackle bike leasing?

25/03/2026
A question that had been on Imelda’s mind for years: can employees lease a bike through work? For a long time, the answer was no. The healthcare sector works with fixed pay scales, making a salary exchange legally impossible.
Until the government decided to change that.
Ready to roll
In early 2025, the government approved PC330. PC331 and PC319 have since followed. This approval opened the door to bike leasing via the end-of-year bonus for around 2,000 employees at Imelda. A significant step for an organisation with more than 2,000 staff across two sites: Imelda Hospital and Den Olm residential care centre.
But a change in legislation is one thing. Rolling it out as an organisation is another.
Imelda drew up a bike plan together with the trade union. Our conditions provided the flexibility needed to reach an agreement everyone could get behind.
The result: from 1 April, employees could sign up. On the very first day alone, 12 lease bikes were ordered. This year, Imelda expects around 150 bikes in total. And the bike shelters? They’re already too small. 💚
Healthy choices start with the employer
Imelda is not located in a city centre. Public transport is limited, and the car park is primarily for patients and visitors. For years, they have been among the first in the sector to actively encourage cycling to work, backed by a cycling kilometre allowance.
Bike leasing fits in perfectly. As part of a broader vision for healthy, sustainable mobility.
€600 net benefit per month for Irma
Irma is Head of Catering at Imelda and cycles 65 kilometres every day, rain or shine. She lives in Antwerp and puts it simply:
“Without the bike, I’d be stuck in traffic on the ring road every day. Even though I cycle two hours a day on a speed pedelec, that’s far more enjoyable than sitting in a queue. The financial difference quickly adds up to €600 net per month.”
What stays with her? Not just the time saved or the money. Also what it does mentally: switching off from work on the way home, being present through the seasons.
Simple for HR, great for everyone
The onboarding process at Imelda went smoothly. The right support makes all the difference.
We ensured clear communication from the very start and organised a launch event with test bikes and an on-site barista. That set the tone straight away: this is something to look forward to.
Questions were answered quickly. For an HR team that already has a lot on its plate, that matters. You want a partner who thinks alongside you, not an extra file to chase up.
My.Cyclis does the rest. The tool is intuitive, employees find their own way around it, and HR doesn’t need to hold anyone’s hand at every step.
The bike works. For Irma and for Imelda.
Bike leasing makes a quality bike financially accessible for employees who couldn’t otherwise make that investment. Because on an old, rickety bike, you’re not going to keep cycling consistently.
For Imelda, that means:
- Fewer cars in the car park
- Healthier employees and reduced absenteeism
- An employer that delivers on its sustainability ambitions
